Dr. Esther Wong
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Esther Wong completed her M.Phil in Developmental Psychology at the University of Cambridge, UK, and thereafter her Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. Esther was brought up and educated in the UK. Upon returning to Hong Kong, she has worked with teenagers and young adults across various settings, including international schools, NGOs, and medical clinics for the past 8 years.
Dr Esther Wong also works as a clinical advisor at Mind HK. She and her team have put together one of the first low intensity guided self help ( Li-GSH) interventions in Hong Kong, using Acceptance and Commitment therapy. Following the UK IAPT model, the team has now trained and supervised 3 cohorts of Psychological Well Being Practitioners, who have delivered the Li-GSH to adolescents and adults across Hong Kong.
Her current focus of clinical work at Sprout in Motion involves working with adolescents and young adults alongside their families. Dr. Esther uses DBT to help individuals experiencing intense and challenges emotions, as well as EMDR and Internal Family Systems therapy to help those who with a history of trauma. Dr. Esther also enjoys working teenagers who present with their own unique strengths and challenges, such as those with Autistic Spectrum disorders, Social communications disorders ADHD and other learning issues. If needed, Esther will also work with the individual's family system to ensure the child as well as their family members are all working together with the same vision and goal.
Dr. Wong conducts psychometric testing for children and teenagers, with the goal of helping individuals, their families, and schools better understand the individual’s unique strengths and weaknesses, make learning a positive experience, and equip them with skills to overcome challenges.
In additon, Dr. Wong works with teenagers and young adults to overcome challenges such as anxiety and depression, cultural identity, transitions and changes, personality disorders and self-harm. Dr. Wong utilises psychotherapy methods to help individuals and their families recognise maladaptive patterns in their lives and replace them with more healthy and effective ones.
