What makes Sprout in Motion different?
Sprout in Motion takes a comprehensive, child-centred approach to ADHD assessment. We look beyond individual behaviours and consider your child’s attention, executive functioning, learning, emotional regulation, behaviour, and everyday functioning.
We combine information from parents, teachers and other relevant sources with standardised assessment tools and clinical observations where appropriate. Our goal is to understand your child’s individual strengths and challenges and provide practical recommendations for home and school.
Who will assess my child?
ADHD assessments at Sprout in Motion are conducted by qualified and accredited psychology professionals with experience in assessing children and young people with attention, executive functioning, learning and behavioural concerns.
Our assessment team includes clinical and educational psychologists and trained psychometrists working within their professional roles. Dr. Minna Chau, Founder and Clinical Child Psychologist, has more than 20 years of experience assessing children with ADHD, specific learning difficulties and autism spectrum disorders.
All reports written by educational psychologists also needs Dr Minna Chau’s approval and official signature.
What areas are assessed?
Depending on your child’s referral concerns, an ADHD assessment may consider:
- Attention and focus
- Impulsivity and self-control
- Hyperactivity and restlessness
- Anxious thoughts
- Depressed mood
- Emotional dysregulation
The assessment is tailored to the concerns and information gathered about your child.
Will the assessment tell me whether my child has ADHD?
An ADHD assessment is designed to help determine whether your child’s pattern of attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity and related difficulties is consistent with ADHD and to identify other factors that may be contributing to the concerns.
There is no single test that can determine ADHD on its own. Information from parents, teachers, developmental history, behaviour rating scales and assessment findings should be considered together.
The purpose of the assessment is not simply to provide a label, but to understand your child’s needs and identify appropriate support.
What does the HK$12,000 assessment fee include?
The current ADHD assessment package includes:
- 1-hour parent interview
- 1-hour attention ability testing
- Parent and/or teacher behaviour rating scales
- Administration, scoring and interpretation of the rating scales
- 1-hour parent feedback session
- Detailed assessment report in English with findings
- Specific recommendations for home and school
Total assessment fee: HK$12,000.
What happens during an ADHD assessment?
The assessment generally includes:
- Initial enquiry ā We learn about your concerns and discuss whether an ADHD assessment may be appropriate.
- Parent consultation/interview ā A specialist gathers information about your child’s development, behaviour, learning and everyday functioning.
- Attention ability testing ā Your child completes age-appropriate activities designed to examine attention and related abilities.
- Behaviour rating scales ā Parents and, where appropriate, teachers provide information about your child’s behaviour and functioning.
- Scoring and interpretation ā The assessment team considers the results alongside the information collected.
- Parent feedback session ā The findings and recommendations are discussed with you.
- Comprehensive report ā A written English report summarises the findings and provides practical recommendations for home and school.
Why does Sprout ask for information from both parents and teachers?
Children can behave differently across home and school environments. Information from parents and teachers helps the assessment team understand whether attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity or executive-function difficulties occur across different settings.
These questionnaires form part of the overall assessment and are considered alongside the interview, testing and other available information.
Does my child attend the parent interview?
The parent interview is intended for parents or caregivers only to provide detailed information about the child’s developmental history, behaviour, learning and current concerns.
What should I tell my child before the assessment?
We recommend using simple, positive and age-appropriate language.
You can explain that your child will meet someone who wants to learn more about how they think, learn and pay attention. Avoid presenting the assessment as a test that your child can pass or fail.
Your child should also get a good night’s sleep and arrive ready to participate. If your child is unwell, please contact the assessment team so we can discuss whether the appointment should be rescheduled.
Do I need to stay with my child during the assessment?
This depends on the appointment and your child’s individual needs. Your assessment team will let you know whether you need to remain onsite.
For appointments where your child is completing testing independently, the team will explain the drop-off and pick-up arrangements in advance.
What if my child’s attention difficulties are actually related to learning problems?
Attention difficulties can sometimes occur alongside learning, emotional, language or developmental concerns.
If information gathered during the assessment suggests that additional evaluation may be helpful, the team can discuss whether another assessment would provide a clearer understanding of your child’s needs.
Sprout in Motion provides a range of assessment services, including psychoeducational, autism, developmental, IQ, speech and language, and occupational therapy assessments.
Will the assessment report provide recommendations for school?
Yes. The ADHD assessment includes specific recommendations for supporting your child’s needs at home and at school.
What will I receive after the assessment?
Parents receive a detailed report explaining the assessment findings, including relevant strengths and areas of difficulty.
The report also provides specific recommendations to help parents and schools understand how best to support the child.
How many appointments are involved?
The current ADHD assessment includes:
- 1-hour parent interview
- 1-hour attention ability testing
- 1-hour parent feedback session
Your assessment team will confirm the appointment schedule with you.
What is the assessment fee?
The current ADHD Assessment fee at Sprout in Motion is HK$12,000.
The assessment includes the parent interview, attention ability testing, behaviour rating scales, parent feedback session and detailed report with recommendations.
Can I claim the assessment through insurance?
Some insurance plans may provide coverage for psychological or mental health assessments. Coverage varies between providers and policies.
We recommend checking with your insurance provider before booking to confirm eligibility and whether a referral or specific documentation is required.
Our team can provide relevant documentation for insurance purposes where applicable.
Who can access my child’s assessment report?
Assessment information are treated as confidential.
Results and reports are not shared with any third parties without parental consent. Parents can choose whether to share the report with their child’s school or other professionals involved in their support.
What support is available after the assessment?
