Occupational Therapist

Louise Tam

Louise is an Occupational Therapist with over five years of clinical experience supporting children and young people across paediatric occupational therapy, child and adolescent mental health, and neurodevelopmental services within the UK National Health Service (NHS). She is registered with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK and the Occupational Therapists Board of Hong Kong. She holds an MSc in Occupational Therapy, an MSc in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, and a BSc in Psychology.

Throughout her career, Louise has supported children and young people with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, developmental coordination difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, and difficulties participating in everyday activities. Working alongside psychologists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, teachers, and families, she has worked within multidisciplinary autism and ADHD assessment pathways, contributing to school liaison, collaborative report writing, functional assessment, and practical recommendations to support participation at home and at school.

Her clinical work has included supporting sensory processing, executive functioning, self-care, daily routines, transitions, emotional regulation, handwriting, and fine motor development. She uses a combination of standardised assessments, functional observation, and play-based approaches to understand each child’s individual strengths and needs.

Louise has also facilitated workshops and group sessions, primarily for parents, on topics including executive functioning, sensory differences, sleep, and early handwriting development. She is a trained sleep counsellor through Sleep Scotland, now known as Sleep Action.

Louise believes therapy works best when it fits into real life — not just what happens in a session, but what a family can actually keep doing at home. She puts a lot of value on the relationship itself, believing that children make the most progress when the people around them feel confident and supported too. Her background in developmental psychology adds another layer to how she thinks about each child — but at the heart of it, her approach stays simple: understand what’s really going on, and figure out together what will actually help.
